Oxygen plays such a large and obvious part in our daily lives that we may take its full importance for granted. The most obvious point one would make in asserting its importance in our lives is that we need it to live. And one would be correct in making this point.
We are all well versed in the need of Oxygen for sustaining life. The last year has shown us this very fact, almost as if it was shouted to us over and over in the news. Specifically, medical grade Oxygen has had a large increase in demand due to the pandemic and made us acutely aware of its importance. As we have vividly seen the effects of what an Oxygen shortage looks like. But do we fully understand or appreciate the role it has in the other aspects of our lives?
Relevant Industries
In the next few blog posts, we are going to have a look at what other roles Oxygen plays in our lives. Whether it is unseen and used in industries we didn’t know affected us or even simply if we have just forgotten. We are going to describe and cover the following sectors and what possible effects this has on our lives:
- Aquaculture – fish farming
- Cutting & Welding Sectors
- Waste Water Treatment Plants
- Medical Sector
- Mining and Mineral Processing Sectors
- Combustion Aid
These sectors are the largest and most relevant industries that make use of Oxygen. This is by no means a full and comprehensive list of all the uses of Oxygen. But it is definitely the most prominent list currently available.
Why Oxygen?
One of the biggest reasons that Oxygen is used in so many applications is its reactivity. When Oxygen is used in conjunction with air or even instead of air, reaction rates are increased in biological reactivity or in combustion. This can lead to faster production times and even reduced production costs. This makes Oxygen a relevant product that is just more than a gas necessary for breathing in to stay alive.
Coming Up
In our last few blog posts, we have talked about recent events and their impact on the Oxygen manufacturing industry. We have also covered how the PSA system, that our generators run on, works. But we have not given any in-depth discussion on what industries use Oxygen. You may be surprised as to how Oxygen can be used on a large scale. Join us in exploring the uses of Oxygen in the coming posts!
